SRM Institute of Science and Technology(SRMIST) has adopted five villages under the Unnat Bharat Abhiyan (UBA)

SRMIST adopted Anjur, Pattaravakkam, Thenmelpakkam, Orathur and Nattarasampattu belonging to the Kancheepuram district under the UBA.
In the inaugural activity of UBA, SRMIST donated furniture worth Rs 2 lakh to a government middle school in Thenmelpakkam village, Kattankulathur Panchayat union, taking into account the urgent requirement of furniture for the school children.
The inaugural event began with a welcome address by the school’s head master Anupkumar who highlighted the various achievements of the school. Thanking SRMIST for donating the furniture, he further went on to place a few additional requests to enhance quality of education in the school–establishing a smart class room, bringing in projectors, setting up public announcement systems and teaching learning instruments being some of the targets.
C Muthamizhchelvan, Director, SRMIST, the chief guest of the event stressed on the importance of rural orientation and invited school children to visit SRM to get exposed to the university campus to enhance their academic knowledge.
Thirumurgan, Project Coordinator, UBA gave the back ground and objectives of the programme. He expressed his happiness that a group of 600 students and faculty members of SRMIST have registered as volunteers in the programme.
Former panchayat leader Elumalai highlighted his own contribution in the development of the village. He appreciated SRM for engaging with the rural community and stressed that sanitation and hygiene were the major issues faced in the villages.
Nirosha, president of the management committee of Thenmel Pakkam School thanked SRMIST for the donation and wished the best for its future endeavours.
Nearly 15 NSS student volunteers represented SRMIST and announced work on areas like organic farming, renewable energy, water management, recuperating artisans, basic amenities and convergence.
