SRM University Organizes DST INSPIRE Science Camp
“Innovation in Science Pursuit for Inspired Research” (INSPIRE) is an innovative programme initiated by the Department of Science and Technology (DST), Govt. of India, to attract talents to the excitement and study of science at an early age. Under the purview of DST INSPIRE program, SRM University, Kattankulathur is organizing a science camp with an aim of attracting and motivating the young minds of India to mould their career for research in the front line areas of science and technology. DST INSPIRE Science Camp is conducted during 07-11 January 2017 at SRM University
Students pursuing science in school at XI-XII standard during the academic year 2016-17 are selected and shortlisted for the science camp if they had secured a minimum of 94.2% and above in 10th Tamilnadu state board/Matriculation/CBSE-CGPA A1 in 10th standard/ICSE-95% in 10th standard/AMU Board-86.6% in 10thstandard/Viswa Bharathi-95.1% in 10th standard.
487 students are shortlisted for the participation in the science camp. The science camp will have talks from eminent scientists, industrial visits, one-one student-mentor interactions, hands on experience program, space workshop, science stage show, Quiz etc.
Dr. R. Balasubramanian, Director, Faculty of Science and Humanities, SRM University, Chennai delivered the welcome address. Dr. D. John Thiruvadigal, Dean (Sciences), SRM University, Chennai, introduced about DST-INSPIRE science camp. The presidential address has been delivered by Prof. Prabir K Bagchi, Vice Chancellor, SRM University, Chennai. Dr. Christine Pfund, Research Mentor-Science, Technology, Engineering, Mathematics & Medicine (STEMM), University of Wisconsin-Madison, USA, inaugurated the science camp followed with special talks by Padmasri Prof. Rajpal S. Sirohi, Former Director, IIT Delhi and Dr. J. Daniel Chellappa, Senior Scientist, Bhaba Atomic Research Centre, Mumbai, India.
Adding to it, various mentors from premier institutions like Ramanajum Institute for Advanced Study in Mathematics, Chennai, Indira Gandhi Centre for Atomic Research, Indian Institute of Technology (IIT) Madras, Chennai, Institute of Mathematical Sciences, Chennai, University of Madras, Chennai, Bharathidasan University, Madurai Kamaraj University, Madurai, Madras Diabetes Research Foundation, Chennai, Anna University, Pondicherry University, Avinashilingam University, Coimbatore, will be mentoring the students during the science camp.
