Guvera launches ‘University  Stream Off’ contest in India

Australia-based music streaming service — Guvera has launched the ‘University Stream Off’ contest across India. In the first-of-its-kind initiative, the activity is a music streaming competition being held in some of India’s most premier educational institutions. The contest will feature the shortlisted universities battling it out to rank as the top five institutions tuning into the new global trend of music streaming. As part of the contest, each participating university has been assigned a special playlist hosted on Guvera, under the channel ‘University Stream Off’. The contest will culminate in the first week of September and will crown five universities as winners, based on the most streamed playlists through the months. Orientation for students, parents at IIAD

Institute of Art and design (IIAD) conducted the orientation programme for new students of 2015 batch at the India International Centre, New Delhi. The students received a warm reception from the institute. On the occasion, designer Leena Singh and Usha Nehru Patel, Dean IIAD were also present. The function started with a welcome address by Institute Director Jitin Chadha followed by the introduction sessions of newly inducted students and faculty The faculty at the IIAD was also introduced to the students with a brief description about everyone. NCDRC organises Indian Cyber Conference -2015

National Cyber Defence Research Centre (NCDRC)  organised InCyCon - Indian Cyber Conference - 2015, the two day International Conference for Cyber Security Solutions on August 7 and 8 at BS Abdur Rahman University, Vandalur, Chennai. Amar Prasad Reddy, Additional Director – General, National Cyber Safety and Security Standards. VM Periasamy, Pro-Vice Chancellor and Vice Chancellor(Officiating), BS Abdur Rahman University, Chennai and cyber security experts from various sectors participated in the conference In addition, NCDRC has embarked on setting up 60 Cyber Security Research Centres across India, with the objective of conducting research, training and hands-on lab environment for universities, industry and professionals. These research labs will also be involved in detecting, analysing and preventing cyber threats/attacks and forensics. NCDRC is setting up research centres across the country in collaboration with various colleges and universities.

IET announces winners of scholarship award

The Institution of Engineering and Technology (IET) announced the winners of the South -II regional round of its scholarship award held in SRM University, Chennai. The South regional rounds took place in two phases in Bangalore and Chennai respectively. Nirupama Sai R from SRM University and Praneet Dutta from VIT University won the South-II regional round in the women and general categories respectively. The winners received a cash prize of `40,000 and will compete at the national final that will be held in Bangalore. The participants presented their ideas on the topic ‘Urban Pollution monitoring and control measures utilising IoT” and were judged on their presentation skills, leadership potential, original ideas, and creativity of solution and depth of technical understanding.

IBM partners with Vels to open software and Business Analytics labs

IBM has partnered with Vels University, Chennai to open IBM Software Lab for Cloud Computing and IBM Business Analytics Lab under its Career Education programme. The labs will equip faculty members and students with knowledge and skills to develop and deploy applications for Cloud environments, understand and practice the same. IBM will enable faculty members and students of Vels University to gain capabilities for Cloud environments and Big Data to incorporate courses offered by the Career Education programme, as a part of its engineering curriculum. Participants will access IBM Bluemix cloud platform. BlueMix is a platform as a Service (PaaS) offering from IBM based on open standards and cloud to build, deploy, manage and run omni-channel applications like web and mobile, big data and other smart services.The IBM Business Analytics Lab will host Big Data and Analytics platform with tools like IBM Infosphere, BigInsights and IBM Cognos. Using these tools, IBM will provide training in the areas of Business Intelligence, Business Analytics and Big Data Analytics.

Book on Conflict studies released at MCC

Madras Christian College released a book titled, An Introduction to Peace and Conflict Studies in Colleges by Merlin Freeda, Director of Community Mobilisation, International Justice Mission, Chennai on August 6. Principal Alexander Jesudasan presided over the book release function. The book consisting of 26 articles on various dimensions of peace and conflict studies written by professors of MCC, past and present, is edited by Joshua Kalapati, MM Ross and CSE Ross, the former and present Directors of the Institute for Advanced Christian Studies, MCC.
