“Innovation in Science Pursuit for Inspired Research (INSPIRE)“ is an innovative programme sponsored by the Department of Science & Technology to provoke young minds towards science and technology. Department of Physics and Nanotechnology, SRM University inaugurated DST INSPIRE Science Camp 2014 at SRM University in the presence of Dr. Gangan Prathap, Outstanding Scientist, NIIST , Thiruvananthapuram, Prof. D. Narayana Rao , Director Research, SRM University, Dr. C. Muthamizhchelvan, Director Engineering and Technology, students from 52 schools, and faculty members.
The inaugural function started with Lamp Lighting ceremony by the honourable chief guest and other dignitaries. Dr. K. Ramanamurthy delivered welcome address and also wished the student participants to get influenced by the mentors of the science camp. The convener, Dr. D. John Thiruvadigal spoke about DST and its contribution towards society’s development. He also emphasised about the highlights like Active Learning Laboratories, visit to Madras Atomic Powe Statioo, Kalpakkam etc..The presidential address was deliversed by , Dr. C. Muthamizhchelvan, Director Engineering and Technology, in which he insisted about the advancements in science and technology sectors.As a part of his speech an educational CD – Lecture series of Richard Feynman was released.
Inaugural address was delivered by the Chief Guest Dr. Gangan Prathap, Outstanding Scientist, NIIST , Thiruvananthapuram. He briefed about the logic behind science and technology and also elaborated three factors evidence, reasoning and logic which were preached and followed by Gautama Buddha in India during 500 BC. Prof. D. Narayana Rao , Director Research, intracted and encouraged the students to explore and learn from the eminent mentors of this science camp. He also assured the students to experience the scientific temper and serve the people at all levels of society. The event came to an end with vote of thanks delivered by Dr. A. Karthikeyan, program co-ordinator of DST INSPIRE 2014.
