The ‘Architect of Coins’ at SRM University

From spiral towers, to pyramids, and bridges, the megastructures designed by minute one rupee coins by the ‘coin architect’ Chandan Banerjee who has set a record in the Limca Book of Records lured the attention of thousands of students at Aaruush 2014, the national level techno management fest conducted at SRM University. Mr. Banerjee, from Dasghara the picturesque village in the Hooghly District of West Bengal, creates adept coin structures using a single one rupee coin as the base.

What started out as a hobby in 2006 with just 20 coins became a full-fledged passion and by March 2010 he finished a structure using 13,000 coins in 26 hours. Chandan Banerjee entered the Limca Book of Records in 2011. On June 24, 2013 he made a tower of 22,000 coins, which took him a pertinacious 44 hours.

Presently, his ‘Coin Gallery’ exhibits creative pieces like gigantic Pyramids, Archways, high mounted towers, hut, fish, a robot and more. He visits various schools, colleges, universities, science and handicraft fairs and exhibitions displaying his coin structures to the all time eager audience.
